Poetry Group Analysis
1.Educators may choose their own poems or use the suggested poems.
2. Suggested Poems:
i) THE BIRTH OF SHAKA by Oswald Mtshali
ii) DA SAME, DA SAME by Sipho Sepamla
iii) MY NAME by Magoleng wa Selepe
3. Procedure:
i) Divide the class into groups.
ii) Hand out copies of the poems. One poem to each group.
iii) Learners to read the poem and analyse it within their groups.
- How is the theme of Identity conveyed in the poem?
- What poetic techniques have been used to convey the theme of Identity?
- What is the poet’s intention?
- Has the poet been successful in communicating the intention? Explain.
iv) In the last 15 minutes of the lesson, groups must share their discussions.
