1. Okonkwo’s determination:

i) Gives attention to African societies being organised and dignified by observing their rituals.

 ii) Shows the importance of unity within the clan.

2. Unoka, an ill-fated man:

i) His `burial’ gives attention to elements of Ibo culture that Achebe considers to be weak. 

ii) Foreshadows Okonkwo’s death and `burial’.
