2. Okonkwo’s suicide:
i) Uses violence that he lived by, to end his life.
ii) For the villagers, suicide is considered taboo.
3. Feel sympathy for Okonkwo:
i) The tragedy of Okonkwo being outside his society.
ii) His personal failure results in him being like his father in death.
iii) He denies himself the burial of a respected member of the clan.
4. The District Commissioner
i) His failure to understand the customs of the people he governs.
ii) Lack of sensitivity.
iii) His book is to glorify himself at the expense of an individual and the destruction of a tribe.
iv) The title: The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Niger. What is his perception of Okonkwo and the people of Umuofia?
