`The pot fell and broke in the sand.’
1. Effects of Ikemefuna’s death:
i) It marks the beginning of Okonkwo’s disasters that culminate in his suicide.
ii) Okonkwo’s physical and spiritual torture.
iii) Nwoye feels betrayed by both his father and the customs of the tribe.
iv)Nwoye, as a vulnerable member of the clan, will welcome Christianity.
2. The pot breaking is symbolic of things falling apart:
i) Nwoye questions, unlike Okonkwo.
ii) Okonkwo’s life begins to unravel.
iii) Okonkwo’s failure to question the traditions of the culture.
iv) Homogeneity of the tribe falls apart.
v) Ikemefuna, Nwoye and Okonkwo have fathers whose behaviours are judged as unacceptable.
How are their fates determined by their respective fathers?
3. The Locusts:
